WORLD OF HALAL CONFERENCE 2010, THAILAND

Thaifex – World of Food Asia 2010 is the premier food event, not only in Thailand but also in South East Asia. This year, held at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre from 30 June to 4 July, this important event in the food calendar attracted more than 21,000 trade visitors from 101 countries who conducted business with 992 exhibitors representing 24 countries and regions. Organised by Koelnmesse Pte Ltd in cooperation with the Department of Export Promotion (DEP) and the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC), Thaifex – World of Food Asia this year was the biggest ever.

The new World of Halal, held parallel to Thaifex – World of Food Asia, is a dedicated platform for businesses in the burgeoning halal trade to connect and expand their networks in the region and around the world. A total of 3,805 trade visitors attended the trade fair and participated in discussions at the supporting World of Halal Conference. The top countries that visited World of Halal came from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Iran and Israel. The conference, hosted by Sahl International Pte Ltd engaged participants in a series of sessions covering topics such as meeting halal market needs, halal certification practices as well as methodologies on halal procedures.

Dr Ekarin Saifah, Deputy Director, Halal Science Center from the reputable and prestigious Chulalongkorn University opened the inaugural conference with a warm welcoming remark.  He also introduced the Halal Science Center and her innovative achievements in the Halal industry.

Mr Anirut Smuthkochorn, Director of the dynamic Halal Standard Institute of Thailand shared the developments of the Halal industry in Thailand. He also led the participants to the vision of the Thailand Halal industry in the years to come and the many significant roles the Halal market is going to play in the future of the kingdom’s economy.

One of the world’s leading Halal authorities, LPPOM MUI from Indonesia was represented by her Executive Director, Mr Ir. Lukmanul Hakim. He shared with participants on Indonesia’s Halal certification practices and policies. This is especially useful to many who looked to leverage on the lucrative Halal market in the most Muslim populated country in the world.

Mr Shahlan Hairalah, CEO and Principle Consultant, Sahl International, shared with participants on the importance of strategic marketing in achieving success in the Halal market. He introduced the PRIM-ERA factors, key in the marketing of Halal products in the varied global Halal markets.

Mr Hj Othman Md Yusoff, Halal Committee Chairman, Nestle Malaysia capped a fulfilling evening with a presentation on the world’s largest company and her philosophy in implementing Halal policies. Leading the world in manufacturing Halal products, Nestle continue to maintain and improve a reliable Halal ecosystem where raw materials, manufacturing and distribution of Halal products are assured.

Facilitated by Mr Shahlan Hairalah, discussions with all the speakers were lively and focused on areas presented. Among the interesting discussions include the integration of the Najis cleansing liquid soap in current industry sanitation procedures, the key roles of Thailand in the global Halal food industry and the marketing strategies adopted by successful companies.
